The Seventh-day Adventist Church at Kettering began as a community church. Back in the late 1950's, family members of Charles Kettering, famous inventor and philanthropist, had been impressed with the Adventist medical work in Chicago and wanted to see the same quality in a new hospital to be built in his honor. Donating land at the foot of the Kettering home and funds sufficient to construct the start of the medical center, they invited the Seventh-day Adventists to own and operate the new facility. Sanctuary

Right from the start, pioneering Adventists with a vision for community involvement were invited to join the new adventure. Under the leadership of George Nelson, many mission-minded Adventist families transferred over the next few years to this area to work in this unique hospital. This influx created a need for a new church and a large church school. What a challenge it was as the Kettering Medical Center, Kettering College of Medical Arts, The Seventh-day Adventist Church at Kettering, and a new Church School (which has grown into what is now known as Spring Valley Academy), were all being built at the same time!

The vision of being a community church still inspires our membership. The beautiful Casavant pipe organ in our sanctuary serves as a community focal point for organ and choral concerts as well as for our own worship services. Our programs are created with the community in mind. The church facilities are regularly used by hospital, college, and the community for classes and other meetings. Community organizations are welcome to use our facilities upon request.

This vision of service to the community is important to our congregation. God has blessed as we have endeavored to live the Gospel in our neighborhood. Come on and catch the vision!
